Sony announced at its Gamescom keynote that it will be releasing a 99 euro PSP this fall. The new console features a refined design (that I think looks great) but will be curiously lacking wifi. It seems like that omission is a bit odd, since now players can't access any PSN functionality or purchase digital titles. It seems like this new model is meant to help Sony clear the shelves of UMD's gathering dust.

I'm very excited about this handheld. While I'm still not sure we need so much power in a portable, I'm looking forward to having dual analog sticks and a great stable of games. The real question is whether the Sony NGP offers enough to pull me away from my iPhone games.

The Sony NGP (the evolution of the PSP) really has me excited. The combination of power, features, flexible controls, and social integration have me more interested in this console than the upcoming Nintendo 3DS. You can get the full rundown on it courtesy of Joystiq here.

While I do own the first LittleBigPlanet title for the PS3, I never really got into the game. I love the art style and the open-ended DIY philosophy behind it, but I could never put in the time to test out the level creation tools. I mostly just played through the single player campaign, but while the visuals were certainly beautiful, I found the controls a little loose and didn't find it to be that addicting a platformer.

After watching this trailer, I am tempted to revisit the original, and am excited for the new features the sequel will have. It seem they have refined and expanded the core experience to create a compelling game that might win me over in a way the first didn't.
