I am incredibly excited for this game, Glitch. It looks like a whimsical MMO with a great deal of depth and opportunities for creativity. It seems to have a dash of the charm of Lego Universe, Little Big Planet, and Monty Python. I also have a ton of respect for the team behind it, and can't wait to see more of what they have in store. Check out this trailer to get a sense of what Tiny Speck is building.
Today is the last day you can preorder the Lego Universe MMO in order to gain early access. The game opens to the public on October 26th, but if you preorder today, you'll get let in on October 12th.
I've been lucky enough to be in the beta test, and trust me when I say that not only will the game be worth every penny, but you'll regret not having this game in your mitts as soon as you can if you miss this offer. Plus, they are shipping a special minifig to those that preorder, so what do you have to lose?
You can buy the game here.
While this online side-scroller most likely will never see the light of day in the US, here is the animated trailer for the Korean-market-bound Rockman Online. Luckily, we will be getting Mega Man Universe here, and rumor has it that we'll be seeing more of that game at PAX.
Hasbro announced a partnership with NetDragon, a Chinese online game developer, to release a Transformers-themed MMORPG in Asian markets. While I hadn't heard of the studio until today, they have worked with Disney and on a version of Ultima Online.
No screenshots have been released, nor any specifics about the design direction of the project. So unfortunately, no one knows whether this will take inspiration from the classic show or borrow from one of the more recent incarnations. Additionally, while the press release alludes to other territories, it doesn't mention the US, so this game may never be playable stateside. You can read the entire release here.
I've personally been getting back into PC gaming, and so I'm excited to see an increasing number of games on the horizon that I actually want to play. The Marvel Super Hero Squad line is definitely the kind of thing I would be into if I were of the toy-buying age. I've always been a fan of the Marvel comic universe, and this game looks like it might be the right mix of casual action-RPG elements and fun characters to be a great game.

I'm curious as to what branch of the series they would adapt (old-school, X, Battle Network, etc.), but the picture seems to indicate that us 8-bit fans might be seeing the classic version of the Blue Bomber. The bevy of robot masters, interesting powers, and side characters inside of the Mega Man universe certainly lend themselves to an MMO, and I'm hoping that this project won't just be for the Korean market.
I absolutely cannot wait for this game to come out. While I haven't traditionally been an MMO player, I think this might strike the perfect balance for me. It evokes nostalgia, seems playful and fun, and will feature a more casual gameplay. The game will also feature a brilliant feature: the ability to bring your digital creations to life and have your in-game constructions mailed to you for assembly. The game is due out in 2010, but it can't arrive soon enough.
However, the Lego MMO, being developed by NetDevil, may be the game that finally entices me into the genre. "Lego Universe" will encourage users to explore an online world that leverages what has always made the toys fun: free-form building. Legos were a key part of my childhood; pushing my imagination and creativity as I enjoyed building whatever I could think of. My brother and I spent countless hours sifting through bins of Legos just to find that perfect piece for our creations. Now, in "Lego Universe", not only can you build online, you can actually have those digital Lego structures sent to you as real Lego sets. How cool is that?
This game could be a crossover smash hit, and I agree with the "Wired" blog post which suggests that this could be the Wii of MMO's. Check out the trailer below for an idea of what is in store.
