This is v0.1 of my Yahoo! Media Player Wordpress plugin. It provides a super-simple way to embed a media player into your site to playback MP3 links. You can find more info about the plugin here: Yahoo! Media Player Wiki.

I have found myself recently spending a fair bit of time in hotel rooms, and am certainly not a fan of the standard sub-par programming, nor do I want to line LodgeNet’s pockets by paying for their content. Luckily, I had the right equipment around to create my own portable VCR of sorts.
Today we celebrate the birthday of a toy very near and dear to my heart: Lego. It is time to put 50 candles on the cake and let the brick blow ‘em out to commemorate 50 years of pushing kids to explore their imaginations and make that always ciritcal decision: do I use the instructions or go rogue? You can find more information on the history of the Lego as well as a whole bunch of cool toys to buy at the Lego Anniversary site.
Check out some of my handiwork from the Lego pit at last year’s SXSW after the jump.
Capcom’s “Phoenix Wright” games are an absolute blast. There is nothing quite like playing a “laywer sim” that combines the excitement of an “Encyclopedia Brown” case with a dash of “Choose Your Own Adventure”, “Law and Order,” and “CSI”. As a result of working my way through the series, I do find myself yelling “objection!” a lot more, and it has rekindled my love of old mystery shows (”Matlock”, “Father Dowling”, “Murder She Wrote”, etc.)
The newest installment is called, “Apollo Justice: Ace Attorney”, and will be landing on the Nintedo DS in February.
After the jump you can play a flash demo of the game courtesy of Capcom that gives a flavor of what we have to look forward to.
Is this what his Steveness is going to be gracing the teeming Mac faithful with tomorrow? Will my bank account be depleted in the name of this svelte laptop? Is the “MacBook Air” Apple’s ultraportable? All answers will be revealed tomorrow…
While I was in NYC over the holidays, one night was spent at the bar “Rififi” in the East Village. When Common People by Pulp came on I had to hit the dance floor with my friends, since it holds a special place in my heart as one of my favorite rock anthems. Apparently this guy felt the same way:
Later, during the brief interlude during which I actually was motivated to break out that rare “Engel shake”, this song came on. I had forgotton about this ditty until last night, when it popped back in my head, and I dug it up online by doing a lyrics search. I have decided to take this rambling post as an opportunity to test out the new, most excellent Yahoo! Media Player (DISCLOSURE: I work for Yahoo!, but I think this is rad independent of my paycheck). It is a great piece of webware, and my apologies to Lucas and Ian for sullying their player with this cheesy song (it seemed a lot better at 3am…).
My friend, Micah, was kind enough to lend me his OLPC to play with for a bit. I had been seriously debating whether or not to pick up this nifty tech toy, but ultimately was never able to make up my mind.
My initial impressions have been mixed. The user interface is certainly novel, but also has some confusing elements. Activating WiFi is a bit tricky, and caused the laptop to freeze up on me. The “pie-style” application management wheel is a fun approach to how to organize running programs. The keyboard leaves a lot to be desired and is really mushy. It certainly is not touch-typeable. However, despite its flaws, the OLPC exudes fun, and looks like the laptop I would have dreamed of immediately following my first viewing of “Short Circuit 2″.
Additionally, spending the night with this toy is immeasurably better than how my night ended yesterday. After attending a talk in San Francisco, I found myself locked out of a closed parking lot that happened to have my rental car still in it. Luckily, some cellular prowess and well-placed financial motivation helped get me home.
Happy new year and welcome to 2008! I have been spending my time recently in NYC, and during the past week I discovered the show “Wild Record Collection” on New York public access:
These stuffed animals sure know how to rock, and I actually had a “Snuffles” of my own (although mine did not have such eclectic music taste or dance as furiously).
Greetings everyone. Since I have reached a point in both expected maturity and practical storage space where it is no longer feasible to be buying collectibles (or what some would call “toys,” including me) I have moved on to cels. Today, the second of my two recent purchases arrived.
For the uninitiated, cels are the original drawings made on celluloid (hence the name) that were used in traditional animation in the pre-computer era. Most recently I have purchased two cels to round out my collection. “Porco Rosso” is a phenomenal film by Hayao Miyazaki, who has continued to make classics like “Spirited Away”. The second cel is from an anime that not only changed anime, but showed me the power of anime and pushed me to think about it in a whole new way. From the brilliant mind of Hideaki Anno came “Neon Genesis Evangelion”, a 26-episode series that my roommates and I watched in a single marathon sitting.
Please join me in welcoming these two new members to the fold.
